what is a buffet,family, and French Style table settings mean?....?
A buffet is a meal-serving system where patrons serve themselves.
A Family Seating is when you sit at the table and pass the food around.
French / Table d'hôte is a French phrase which literally means host's table but is used to indicate a menu where multi-course meals with limited choices are charged at a fixed rate. Such a menu may also be called prix fixe ("fixed price"). As the menu is set, the cutlery on the table will be already set for all of the courses with the first course cutlery on the outside working in towards the plate as the courses progress

Different Service Styles
FAMILY
The meal is placed in bowls and platters. The diners serve themselves and then pass the dish to the next person.
BUFFET
The food is placed on a side board with the plates. The guests serve themselves and take their plate to the table.
PLATE
The meal is plated in the kitchen and then served.
BUTLER
The most time consuming. When seated, warm plates are placed before the guests. The meal is presented to the guest. This service has limited use today. If you are the Only One serving, the number of diners has to be kept small.
